DETROIT WAZA FLO REPEAT AS EASTERN DIVISION CHAMPIONS!!!!
LAST NIGHT'S WIN SEALS IT FOR DETROIT!!!!!!!

(Detroit, MI)- With one game still remaining, Detroit WAZA has sealed the Eastern Division league championship in last night's 19-1 domination against the Ohio Vortex. This win guarantees Detroit the title for the second year in a row and also advances the team to the PASL's National Championship series.

The Vortex, who have struggled all season, faired no better in Detroit and failed to put any points on the scoreboard after John Zapotechne hit an unassisted shot early in the first quarter. Meanwhile Detroit kept the pressure on Ohio's keeper, Mike Mason, firing shot after shot, finding the back of the net on most. Notable scoring came from: defender Costea Decu (6 goals and 1 assists), midfielder Niki Djokic (3 goals and 4 assists), forward Dominic Scicluna (2 goals and 1 assist), and midfielder Miki Djerisilo (1 point and 3 assists). The win also puts Detroit's rookie goalkeeper, Joey Kapinos, at the top of the league tied for most wins.

"We are happy to repeat as division champs and look forward to the playoff series and getting to Nationals", said coach Dominic Scicluna "we'll keep at it until we bring home a title to Detroit".

DETROIT WAZA FLO ADVANCE TO OPEN CUP FINALS!!!!!
TWO ROAD WINS SECURE TOP SPOTS FOR DETROIT'S WINNING TEAM

(Detroit, MI)- Detroit heads home with double header victories adding two more "W's" to their first place Eastern Division record of 12-2. With wins in both Rockford IL (beating the Rampage 14-10) and a double duty league/US Open Cup in Chicago (beating the Mustangs 9-6) the WAZA FLO are poised at the top of their division and also advance to the US Open Cup final to be held in Detroit against the San Diego Sockers (date to be announced).

What looked to be a Saturday evening blow out in Rockford, with Detroit leading the points 11-2 after the third, quickly turned dicey in the fourth as the Rampage took advantage of several Detroit man down opportunities. Rockford started a scoring spree netting 8 more goals to Detroit's 3 bringing the game a little too close for comfort, to end in a 14 - 10 victory for WAZA. Stand out performances for Detroit came from Miki Djerisilo, Zack Wilkes, and Niki Djokic, each netting a pair, and Worteh Sampson with a hat trick.

Chicago, still hurting from their December 8-7 loss in Detroit (with a winning goal by Costea Decu with 0:54 on the clock) looked to exact revenge with a packed house in Hoffman Estates IL. But Detroit came ready to play quickly putting three points on the board in the first. With back and forth goals in the second and third, the Mustangs evened the score and took a brief lead. Detroit extinguished any hopes in the fourth netting three unanswered goals, sealing both the league game victory and the US Open Cup final position. "I am more than proud of my team and their performances this weekend", said coach Dominic Scicluna, "and am very much looking forward to the US Open Cup final against San Diego on our home turf".

Stand out performances were had by Fernando Gatica, Zane Polack and Costea Decu each with two goals, Worteh Sampson and Miki Djerislio, both with two assists, and player/coach Dominic Scicluna with a goal and assist. Another notable standout was Detroit's goalie Joey Kapinos, with 32 saves in the Match.

Detroit WAZA FLO returns to their home field Saturday February 2nd when they take on the Ohio Vortex at the Taylor Sportsplex, 7:30 kick-off.

ANOTHER WIN FOR DETROIT DOES DOUBLE DUTY

(Detroit, MI)- Detroit WAZA FLO currently 9 and 1 continue to rack up the "W's" with another victory tonight beating the Harrisburg Heat 8-4 at the Taylor Sportsplex. Tonight's win also serves double duty as a qualifying match and it advances Detroit in the PASL's (Professional Arena Soccer League) Open Cup, which is a league tournament that runs concurrently with league play inviting semi-pro teams to best their skills against the pros.

After a two week sabbatical, Harrisburg, with a record of 3 and 6 and currently 3rd place in the East, came ready to play and had a point on the board within minutes. Detroit countered with a goal of their own by Zack Wilkes (assist by Dominic Scicluna) ending the first period tied 1-1. Detroit owned the second period with goals by Aaron Byrd, Ricardo Lopes (assist by Victor Otieno) and a power play goal by Drew Ducker with the Heat finding the net only once to make the score 4-2 at the half. The WAZA FLO kept the goals coming in the second half with Victor Otieno (assist Micheal Grba) and Zane Polack (assist Byrd) with one each and Ricardo Lopes netting two, to end the match with a hat trick (assist Byrd and Matt Johnson). "The score of the game was not indicative of the play from Harrisburg", commented head Detroit WAZA coach Dominic Scicluna, "they are a tough, fast, physical team and they came to play, it was a good battle".

Detroit will host the Harrisburg Heat again tomorrow, January 13th, for a Sunday matinee game at the Taylor Sportsplex, 2:30 kick-off. Detroit WAZA capture another "W" at home
Illinois sent home bruised after 2 loss road trip

Detroit eased past the Illinois Piasa Sunday afternoon in a winning matinee performance in Taylor. With a score of 12-4 Detroit WAZA FLO added another mark in the win column (3-1) and now sit on top of the Eastern Division, while Piasa (0-5) struggles in last place.

Continuing his hot streak, Detroit's leading scorer, Tino Scicluna, started the points for Detroit with an unassisted goal adding another late in the game, to give him 9 for the season. Detroit's Miki Djerisilo had an uninterrupted hat trick putting in three in a row for WAZA (assisted by Nik Djokic, Tino Scicluna, and Co-head Coach Dominic Scicluna). With two more goals by Fernando Gatica (assist by Darrel Quinn) and Dominic Scicluna (assist by Drew Ducker) Detroit WAZA was poised at the half leading the game with a 6-2 score

Illinois made a push in the second half with a goal by current Illinois and former WAZA FLO player, Blake Ordell, and another by his teammate Jesse Semnacher but it wasn't enough to stop the veteran crew from Detroit. "The guys have been working hard to stay extremely disciplined and on task and are doing everything Matt and I are asking of them", said co-head coach Dominic Scicluna, and it showed. With creative passing and play, the majority of Detroit's roster found the back of the net with Ducker, Micheal Grba, Costea Decu, Djokic and Gatica each adding a point to end the game 12-4 Detroit.

DETROIT AND CINCINNATI BATTLE UNTIL LAST SECONDS OF GAME
Fouls and penalties keep Detroit a man down and point down entire match

(Cincinnati, Ohio) - In the second game of a two game road trip, Detroit WAZA FLO took on the Cincinnati Kings for the King's home opener in front of an excited Game Time Center crowd. Always eager for this rivalry, the fans got what they came for. Unfortunately Detroit did not, falling to the Kings in a back and forth battle that played out until the last seconds of the match ending 9 - 8. Scoring started early for Cincinnati, when Jeff Hughes (three goals) found the back of the net on a free kick minutes into the game. Waza answered with a goal by Stefan St. Louis. With missed opportunities by both sides, the quarter ended 1 - 1 . Cinci's Hughes continued his hot streak, adding two more to the score in the second quarter. Detroit's Doug Rice and Darrel Quinn answered back with one goal each but Cincy found the the net two more times ending the first half of the match with an important two goal lead.

The Kings went on to build a three goal lead in the second half when WAZA started to build momentum. With smarter defense, less fouls and two goals by Tino Scicluna, Detroit was able to tie the game at 7 - 7. With back and forth play until late in the fourth quarter, WAZA committed a 6th team foul allowing Cinci to capitalize on the man down situation with a back post tap in goal. The Kings went up by two as WAZA replaced their goalie with a 6th attacker but Detroit quickly remedied the scoreboard with two goals by last year King player (and current Detroit player), Niki Djokic, "It was nice to battle my old teammates and friends, but it would have been a lot better beating them. Unfortunately that didn't happen tonight. I'm looking forward to playing them again later in the season", stated Djokic.

Detroit kept up the pressure but were unable to get the ball past the King's goal keeper, Craig Salvati, who was crowned player of the game.
"It was an exciting game to be part of, both teams attack with a lot of force and both team defend with a lot of discipline. Cinci's goalie, Salvati, made some incredible saves that made the difference in the game", said Detroit's head coach and player- Dominic Scicluna.
Waza ultimately fell to the kings 9- 8. Detroit WAZA FLO will take on the Ohio Vortex Saturday, November 10, 2012 for their season home opener 7:30 kick-off.

DETROIT WAZA FLO CRUSH ILLINOIS PIASA IN SEASON OPENER

(Collinsville, Illinois) - Detroit WAZA Flo started their season on the road vs Illinois Piasa at The Sports Academy in front of an excited crowd. The game was dominated and controlled by Detroit, who quickly quieted the hometown fans with an 11-5 victory.

The night started off calm and collected for Detroit, who played organized and direct soccer throughout the majority of the game. Waza took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter and continued to pick up speed driving to a 7-2 halftime lead. Rookie goalkeeper, Joey Kapinos, made some big saves for WAZA in his debut, keeping the 5 goal gap after the first two quarters. "I am the new guy on the team, everyone else has been teammates for years. I had to fit in quickly. These guys are great! I felt really comfortable playing, like I've been here with the team all along."

The second half wasn't as smooth as Detroit would have liked, giving up a few penalties and a goal (on a 5 on 3 power play for Piasa). But in the end, it was too little too late for Illinois, as Detroit kept the goals coming. Nik Djokic and Ryan Mallord both had a pair each, but Zack Wilkes led the WAZA scoring with 3 goals and 2 assists clearly setting himself apart as man of the match. "I did what I was asked to do, push up and pressure them and attack when the opportunity presented itself," stated Wilkes "I guess those chances came and it helped us win tonight".

Detroit travels to pay the Cincinnati Kings today with a 6:30 EST kick-off.

Tense Battle Ends in WAZA Win

(Detroit, MI) This Saturday marked one of the most anticipated soccer matches of the season with the Detroit WAZA FLO beating the Cincinnati Kings 8 – 6.  In front of a sold out crowd, WAZA fans were given the chance to watch this fierce rivalry. But an emotional roller coaster of a ride was in store for the home town faithful. “I think tonight’s game was a game of storms.  We put a little pressure on them; they put a little pressure on us.  It seemed to go back and forth and back and forth with both teams creating some chances.  But we were lucky and finished more than they did.” said head-coach Costea Decu.  “Cincinnati had a fabulous effort; they threw an awful lot into the game but our guys fought and fought.  There is no quit in our guys and I’m extremely proud of what we did in this game. ” A game that started with few real chances in the first half grew more tense and unpredictable over its span.  In the second half, the Kings came out of the locker room with more energy and added 3 goals for a tie and, at one point, took the lead in the match.  But Costea Decu, WAZA’s top scorer of the game, cemented the victory in the fourth quarter with 2 goals spaced about one minute apart. Adding Decu, “It was a great game.  We battled down to the last couple of minutes. We stepped it up, we could taste it.  And with our hometown crowd behind us, supporting us, we knew we were going to win the game”. The WAZA FLO will be back home Sunday, January 8th to play the Illinois Piasa at the Taylor Sportsplex, 2:35 kick-off.

Split Finishes on the Road for Detroit

(Detroit, MI) Detroit WAZA FLO continued their unbeaten streak with a 4 – 3 win on the road against the Illinois Piasa on Saturday however they found no magic on Sunday with a 7 -  8 loss against the Kansas Magic.  “The games we played this weekend were as difficult as we’ve played all season.” said head-coach Costea Decu.  “I thought we were okay. These weren’t our best played games for sure. Scoring is challenging to do, but it’s always harder when you are away. When we are home, I think, we play with a little more confidence. ” While the Illinois Piasa took the lead by 2 in the second quarter of Saturday’s game, Costea Decu started off the fireworks for Detroit by hitting a sterling strike on a power play.  Midfielder Miki Djerisilo added to the tally in the third to tie the match.  Forward Dominic Scicluna  slipped the ball through on a power play less than five minutes into the fourth quarter, followed by defender Zack Wilkes who fired a shot into the back of the net a mere 26 seconds later icing the win for Detroit.  “At halftime we realized we weren’t moving well. We weren’t playing as hard as we should. We just realized we wanted the win more than we showed in the first half,” added Dominic Scicluna. Despite the victory over Illinois, Detroit saw their unbeaten streak snap with a loss to the Kansas Magic on Sunday. After a sluggish start for both teams, the Magic exploded with a 3 - 2 advantage over Detroit in the 2nd quarter.  Detroit followed with 2 additional goals in the 3rd but the Magic one upped Detroit with three. This back and forth pattern continued for the balance of the game with Kansas sealing the victory 7 - 8. WAZA’s scoring was led by Miki Djerisilo and Costea Decu with 2 goals each and brothers Tino and Dominic Scicluna having 1 a piece, shadowed by forward Darrel Quinn with his first score of the season. After two weeks off, The WAZA FLO will be back home Saturday, December 17th to play the Cincinnati Kings at the Taylor Sportsplex, 7:35 kick-off.

Vortex Reeling From the FLO

(Detroit, MI) Detroit WAZA FLO continues their two-game unbeaten streak with a win against the Ohio Vortex at the Taylor Sportsplex.  The 9 – 7 victory gave WAZA FLO their third straight win of the season. “Obviously, a great win.  Two real good teams tonight,” said head-coach Costea Decu.  “It wasn’t our best performance; we didn’t beat them like we did earlier in the season but I am happy with our efforts and proud of my teammates.” Midfielder Miki Djersilo scored his team leading tenth goal to give Detroit its third win of the season. The match was punctuated by frequent hard tackles and a heart-stopping opportunity in the fourth quarter by the Vortex to gain the lead.  But Detroit held on and took care of business.  Midfielder Ryan Mack found net twice, while Costea Decu slipped the ball through on a power play. Forward Dominic Scicluna also stepped up to score. Adding Scicluna, “Our energy was great tonight.  We love playing here. The crowd has been fantastic for us. “Despite the loss, the Vortex had plenty of positives to take away from the game, including a two goal performance each by Georgi Petrov and Jared Dombrowski.  The other Vortex goals came from Judson McKinney, Ryan McClay and Andy Lorei who scored on a 4th quarter penalty kick. No Chance of Lightning in Detroit!!!

(Detroit MI, November 7, 2011) Detroit WAZA FLO is on a hot-streak, crushing the Louisville Lightning in an extremely physical home opener yesterday afternoon at the Taylor Sportsplex with a score of 9-3. "After working through a rocky first period, we came together perfectly," said head-coach Dominic Scicluna "we will have to continue to work harder and smarter to stay on top this season". "Louisville started with a high degree of energy, but we matched that after the first ten minutes and controlled the rest of the game," added head-coach Costea Decu. Nelson Diaz, Ryan Mack, Ricardo Lopes, and Dominic Scicluna led Detroit WAZA FLO's (2-0) scoring drive each with one goal. In addition, Miki Djerislio and Aaron Byrd scored twice and Costea Decu added a point of his own. Detroit Waza Flo kick-off season opener with a "W" over Ohio

(Detroit. MI-November 5, 2011)
After intense preseason training and the acquisition of key veteran players, the PASL's Detroit WAZA FLO captured the win in their season opener, best described as an 11-3 "blow-out" against the Ohio Vortex. "It started out a bit rocky, but our veterans got this win," said head coach Costea Decu after the game. "Our team has room for improvement, but we have great depth of talent and we are looking good for this season". The game was tied 2-2 in the first but Detroit came alive out-scoring the Vortex 9-0 for the next three quarters. Ryan Mack led Detroit's offensive drive with the first two goals. Miki Djerisilo added another two and team head coach Dominic Scicluna scored a hat trick in the winning effort. Additional goals were scored by Detroit's Costea Decu, Nelson Diaz, Zack Wilkes, and Ricardo Lopes.
Steve Gillespie, Pete Angelokostopoulos, and Andy Lerei of Ohio each had a goal but their efforts weren't enough to compete with Detroit's defense.
Coming off of last year's injury, Vito Lonigro earned the win for Detroit between the pipes with 12 saves. Detroit WAZA FLO return to the field Sunday, November 6th at 2:35 when they host their home opener against the Louisville Lightning at the Taylor Sportsplex 13333 Telegraph Road, Taylor, MI.
